MEET MARIA
The ITC Rajputana is designed to make you feel like a royal – from the efficiency and warmth of its courteous staff to the architectural elements and décor so distinctly reminiscent of the age of the princely families that once ruled this desert region in India.
I certainly felt like one when being whisked off to my room to avoid the bustle of a group check-in at the lobby. My personal check-in was attended to within the confines of my opulent room, where classical luxuries blended smoothly with heritage touches.
Traditional Rajasthani elements such as long corridors, courtyards and lattice work playfully juxtapose themselves among the opulence of the luxurious swimming pool, ‘haveli’ style grandeur and traditional art and craft. The uncluttered and contemporary purview works well to show off the art that keeps with the custom of the ancient havelis.
A depiction of the famous Jaigarh Fort, whose stoic sight from the hotel draws many guests to its walls, frames the reception area, while paintings of famous royal personalities and traditional miniatures dot the property.
As a tribute to the erstwhile ‘Princely States of Rajpootana’, the hotel has named its 16 suites after each one. These, and the resplendent Presidential Suite, are part of the 218 rooms on offer at the ITC Rajputana.
The food here is certainly fit for a king – regal multi-cuisine offerings sampled to the sound of live performances by ‘ghazal’ singers, traditional dance performances that lend flavour to the delectable spread of kebabs created in a show kitchen, and the winking of a thousand mirrors that add a sparkle to your champagne.
